Jakartans Invited to Participate in HPSN 2025 Event

Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency invites the entire community to participate in the series of National Waste Awareness Day (HPSN) 2025 event.

HPSN is commemorated every February 21, 2025 as a reflection of the waste landslide tragedy at Leuwigajah Landfill in 2005 which killed around 150 local residents. This became a milestone for better and more responsible waste management in Indonesia.

Jakarta Environment (LH) Agency Head, Asep Kuswanto mentioned that the series of HPSN commemoration event at Jakarta Provincial level began with Indonesian Clean Day (HBI). This simultaneous cleanup action carried out throughout Jakarta and participated by thousands of volunteers from various communities, offices, and even schools.

He conveyed that HBI was held in a number of locations throughout Jakarta, such as Kota Tua and Gelora Bung Karno. Later, the team leader will lead the cleanup action with the volunteers in each location.

Asep explained that in this cleanup action, the volunteers would implement waste reduction by sorting waste into organic, inorganic, and hazardous waste categories.

"Next, the waste will be sorted at TPS3R and Waste Bank. Volunteers also audit the brand to identify the origin of the waste, making it an educational event for reducing waste," he said, Friday (2/21). 

He informed that the peak event of HPSN 2025 at provincial level, namely Trash Fest, will be held at Lapangan Banteng, Central Jakarta, on February 23, 2025. This event is held in collaboration with Jakarta LH Agency, Jak arta Experience Board (JxB) and Indonesia Indah Foundation (IIF).

Trash Fest is a means to educate the public by holding talk shows that involve environmental activists, such as Duitin app, Bank Sampah Gunung Mas, and Eco Enzyme Nusantara.

Trash Fest will feature Betawi traditional dance performance, Lenong Edukasi about waste, Heal the World Episode 3, musical performance by DLH band, and guest star Bondan Prakoso.

"Trash Fest is the peak event of HPSN 2025 in Jakarta and serves as a public education space about waste utilization and promoting a love of nature. Through Trash Fest, people can join actively in discussion to raise awareness about reducing waste," he stated.

At Trash Fest 2025, participants can join a sharing session with Uniqlo and Modena, waste utilization workshop by Ecotouch, Goodwill Wednesday Movement initiated by Jakarta Scout to invite scout members to participate in reducing waste from the source activities.   

According to him, HPSN 2025 is one of the milestones in implementing the roadmap for managing waste from the source in Jakarta through public education. This education focuses on reducing the use of plastics, raising awareness about proper disposal, promoting waste sorting according to categories, encouraging active participation in waste reduction communities, such as Waste Bank and Maggot BSF Bioconversion.

This is also a part of activities leading up to the 500-year anniversary of Jakarta in 2027.

"By participating in this activity, people can be more aware and concerned about their environment and play and active role in reducing waste. This contributes to Jakarta's advancement as a Sustainable Global City," he said.
